The 54th International Art Exhibition, directed by Bice Curiger, will run June 4th to November 27th, 2011 at the Giardini and Arsenale venues (Preview on June 1-2-3) and elsewhere around Venice. The show is titled ILLUMInations, and will be set up in the Central Pavilion at Giardini and at the Arsenale, forming a single itinerary that will feature 83 artists from all over the world. From 4 June to 27 November 2011, the Correr Museum in Venice is staging a major exhibition dedicated to Julian Schnabel, the famed New York artist and eclectic creative spirit. Curated by Norman Rosenthal, the exhibition presents more than forty works, exploring Julian Schnabel’s career from the 1970s to the present and offering an opportunity to admire paintings and sculptures by a great artist and all-round American phenomenon. The retrospective illustrates his aesthetic, strongly influenced by Jackson Pollock and Cy Twombly, but also drawing on the European and Mediterranean tradition. [website]
