1. What did Dr. Raviele aim at when he first decided to organize the VeniceArrhythmias Congress?

Dr. Antonio Raviele founded VeniceArrhythmias back in 1989, with a simple - if extremely ambitious – aim: to organize a biannual workshop providing its attendees with the highest scientific standard in the field of cardiac arrhythmias – rich with several sessions, discussions and themes – in one of the most beautiful locations of the whole world: Venice.

The newborn among many user-friendly web tools promoted by VA2009, it effectively allows everyone to program his own agenda for the forthcoming edition of our workshop – in order to plan your participation for the best, have a look at the amazing Lionel Organizer! The upcoming edition of our worldwide-known workshop will gather more than 3000 participants coming from over 60 different countries, and a highly prestigious Faculty, featuring the most renowned experts and leaders in the field of clinical arrhythmology, electrophysiology and cardiac pacing.
During the 4 days of the meeting, all the aspects of the subject - from epidemiology, to pathophysiology, natural history, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment, will be extensively dealt in 9 different rooms simultaneously by over 300 invited speakers.

VA2009 will be effectively reward its contributors both for the scientific value of the received abstracts and for their... quickness!
In order to repeat the sensational effect made by the Best Communication Award – also known as Golden Lionel Award – in the 2007 edition, Sorin Group will actively patronize two special awards – € 1,500 gross each – also at VA2009.
Prizes will be given to the TWO “Best Communication” works selected by the Abstract Award Committee between accepted oral communications On the other hand, the Lionel Lottery provides THREE among the first 100 contributors to send their abstract to VA2009 with no less than spectacular prizes:

As it always occurs in Venice, many art and cultural exhibitions will take place during the days of our workshop – a further chance to add a fascinating flavour to your staying in this wonderful town! First of all, the 53rd VENICE BIENNALE ART EXHIBITION, which has recently been presented in Rome by Director Daniel Birnbaum, titled Making Worlds, and to be held in Venice from June 7 to November 22, 2009.
Besides that, other key exhibitions to take place in Venice will be the ones concerning Italian Futurism: MASTERPIECES OF FUTURISM AT THE PEGGY GUGGENHEIM COLLECTION, for instance, will celebrate the centenary year of the publication of Filippo Tommaso Marinetti’s founding manifesto with a special installation in the permanent galleries of the museum, focused on the Futurist masterpieces of the Gianni Mattioli Collection, with additional paintings, sculptures and works on paper from the Guggenheim Collection and other private collections. The presentation includes iconic paintings by each of the five artists who signed the Technical Manifesto of Futurist Painting in 1910, Balla, Boccioni, Carrà, Russolo and Severini, and by other artists related to the movement (Rosai, Sironi, Soffici) [more]
The exhibition aims to be a comparison grounded on resemblance of subjects and contacts: many interesting examples will show Signorini’s artistic evolution, presenting his most peculiar and well-known works, with meaningful comparisons among the main protagonists of the last decades of XIXth European art history [more]

As it’s always happened, this year’s Opening Ceremony will undoubtedly be one of the key moments of the whole Workshop. The event is due to take place on Sunday, October 4, 2009, in the majestic setting provided by the Giorgio Cini Foundation – a Welcome Cocktail will follow soon afterwards.. But there’s more to it: participants will also have the unique opportunity to visit the outstanding John Wesley exhibition, organized by the Prada Foundation and hosted by the Giorgio Cini Foundation itself: a great chance to have a close look at the works of one of the absolute masters of Pop and Minimal Art.
Venicearrhythmias’ long-time friends know it for sure: besides the outstanding Scientific Program and the excellent Faculty, Social Events have always been the cherry on the cake of every single edition of our Workshop. This year, apart from the above-mentioned Opening Ceremony, our Social Program includes...:
- a wonderful Accompanying Persons’ Excursion featuring an exceptional chance to visit the worldwide-famous Pinault’s art collection and a typical, delicious Venetian meal
- the classic
Venetian Music Concert, to be hosted in the wonderful Scuola Grande di San Rocco
- and – last but definitely not least – the magnificent Gala Dinner, to take place in the astonishingly majestic and historic setting of the Scuola Grande di San Giovanni Evangelista.

Futurism will be the centre of the exhibition to be held at Museo Correr, as well: FUTURISMO 1OO is an umbrella project within the ambit of the celebrations of the above mentioned centenary, organized under the patronage of the Ministry for Cultural Assets and Activities and presenting three major exhibitions over the course of the year – to be held in Rovereto, Milan and – of course – Venice. Abstractions (5 June – 4 October 2009) is the title of the Venetian section: a highly fascinating comparison between the works of the maestro of Italian Futurism Giacomo Balla and those of the great contemporary European artists such as Piet Mondrian, Francis Picabia and his bizarre Dadaist machines, Robert Delauney, Frantisek Kupka and Marcel Duchamp
Last but not least, the nearby town of Padua provides a wonderful opportunity to discover one among the most... “international” Italian artists of the XIX century: TELEMACO SIGNORINI AND THE PAINTING IN EUROPE, scheduled in Palazzo Zabarella (September 19, 2009 – January 31, 2010) features an offering of the most important masterpieces (approximately 100 paintings) of the Italian artist, vis a vis with those by other important European maestros - like Degas, Tissot, Van Gogh, Caillebotte, Manet, Monet, Decamps, Toulouse-Lautrec.
